Poultry Lighting

SolarPaddy is proud to offer a poultry lighting system which complies with the regulations for organic egg producers. Developed in Ireland by SolarPaddy the system allows poultry to retire for the night under natural light and be afforded rest for a set period before the lighting is activated. The system automatically resets itself at dawn ready for another cycle which starts at dusk. Other poultry lighting systems have timers which activate at specific times taking no account of the time at which natural light fades. SolarPaddy's poultry lighting system will allow for local and daily variations affecting light at dusk such as shade from trees or buildings or weather conditions. The system uses no mains electricity and can light up to 20 square metres using low voltage LED bulbs in Ireland all through winter. It is recommended to monitor the battery for charge periodically especially during darker days. The further towards the equator you are located the larger the area that can be lit.

Happy Hens Lay More Eggs

Some poultry can stop laying altogether for the winter months making quality eggs scarce and therefore more valuable. The effects of artificial lighting on egg production is universally known but keeping your poultry happy is also important. Ordinary timer controlled lighting can upset layers, promote vices and cause stress.

SolarPaddy's lighting sytem does not adversly affect the natural cycles of laying poultry as it works in tandem with the ever changing light cycles because it's controlled by the onset of dusk.

Energy Efficient Lighting

LED bulbs are the most efficient bulbs for lighting and use a fraction of the energy that an incandescent bulb uses to produce a similar amount of light.

Solarpaddy supplies 12volt 1 watt and 2.3 watt LED bulbs of the MR16 type. One bulb will light an average size shed or room. Led bulbs are renowned for their long life and this type emit a very warm light. A 20w panel should support 2 of these lights during the worst of the winter days even if left on all night and far more than that during the summer
